Elmer Leon Henson, 89, Mountain Park passed away Sunday, June 4, 2017 in Duncan, OK. He was born August 13, 1927 in Fletcher, OK, the youngest of seven children born to Robert Asbury and Lula Mae (Whetsell) Henson. Life was tough and the children worked hard to help support the family. In 1945 at about 18 years of age Elmer joined the Army Air Force as a Private First Class. His job was helping to build fighter jets until his job was phased out in 1947. He loved music, playing the guitar and was in a band with his brother Gene. Elmer worked many years in the steel industry and later worked as water superintendant in Mountain Park for several years until 1966. He then worked as a farm hand until he retired. He loved going fishing with his good friend Dorothy Daniels. Elmer was proud of being a veteran and helping in the war effort. He was very close to his mother, and although he had no children, he was proud of his family. He was a gentle soul, and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by eight nieces, and five nephews, and was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Viola, five brothers, Buster, Archie, Richard, Robert, Gene and two nieces and three nephews.
