Elizabeth Anne Mercer, Beth, beloved mother, wife, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother was called to heaven January 14, 2025, in Lawton, Oklahoma, she was 87 years old.
Born June 28, 1938, in Havre, Montana, Beth touched the heart of everyone she met with her life loving spirit and timeless wit.
Born a minister's daughter, Beth and her siblings relocated many times in their life, eventually bringing her to Vancouver, WA to graduate high school, known as Fort Vancouver High. She landed in Reno, NV after high school, eventually marrying David Rittenhouse. Beth had children with David, and this began an early life of the Army wife. Included in the many moves and changes over 20+ years, Beth raised her kids solo while David spent many years between combat deployments and schools required for his job in the Army.
Beth worked in the oil industry in the early 80's and eventually landed as the Military Billing Agent for Affiliated Van Lines where she retired.
Beth had diverse interests in life. Beth was a former President of XI TAU Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, something she always cherished with her crazy, dear friends and wonderful times celebrating life and laughter. In another realm, she spent time as the librarian for First Baptist Church Lawton. After retirement she still enjoyed book clubs with friends from church.
Beth's happiest years came in the early 1990's when she met and married Earl Mercer. They built a beautiful home on a pecan orchard, where Earl was a master at grafting any kind of pecan on native pecan trees. They enjoyed fishing and traveling across Oklahoma, New Mexico, Colorado, and Texas. Two of their favorite trips were to watch the Texas Rangers play baseball, and epic trips fishing to Port Aransas. Earl and Beth were the synergy agents that brought many families together to the Pecan Orchard to celebrate life, the 4th of July and especially Christmas. All the grandkids will always have a special place in their hearts for Post Oak Valley Pecans.
Beth could walk through the house and sit down at the piano and play a classic piece without much effort. She was best known for her cooking; but her real mark in life was destroying just about anyone at the Scrabble Board or yawning while completing the New York Times crossword puzzle.
Beth, Bertha Anne, Baba, Mumsie Dahling, Beth Anne, so many names for a loving person to all.
Beth is survived by her three favorite siblings, David Heskett of Kalamazoo, MI, Jan Joy (Heskett) Pierce of Allyn, WA, Timothy M Heskett Sr., Oklahoma City, OK, Son Brad Rittenhouse and Wife Selena of Lawton, Andrea Rittenhouse Garibay of Cary, NC, Sandi Knopf of Tualatin, OR, grandchildren Madison Rittenhouse Gorbet and her Husband Michael, Dr. Maybree Rittenhouse Lawrence and her husband Derek Lawrence, Randy Garibay, Sean Garibay and his wife Megan Garibay, and Tony Garibay and his wife Victoria Garibay, and several great grandchildren.
Beth is also survived by her stepdaughter Jeanne Weeks and her husband Charlie of Pauls Valley; and stepson, Tod Soper Mercer and his wife Christy of Tulsa, four grandchildren, as well: Charlton Earl Weeks and his wife Nikki of Norman; Kayla Porche and her husband Chip of Broken Arrow; McKenzie Mercer of Tulsa; and Dakota Mercer of Oklahoma City; and two great-grandchildren: Ivy Jane Porche and Walker Carver Weeks.
