Eleanor "Gail" Mizelle, 80, of Lawton, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 22, 2026.

Born on June 23, 1945, in Newport News, Virginia to P.A and Mary O'Hara, Gail lived a life defined by devotion to her family, adaptability to new places and people, and boundless love. On November 28, 1969, she married John Price Mizelle, embarking on a never-ending journey as a dedicated wife, mother and civil servant.

As a military wife, Gail was the steadfast anchor of her family. She navigated numerous deployments and duty station moves with grace, turning over a dozen new, unfamiliar houses into a warm and welcoming home. Her quiet strength and faith were the force that supported and fostered her family's growth and successes. Gail also served her country as an Army Civilian, helping the Army foster better living and working environments through her role as a contract officer for the Morale, Welfare and Recreation programs at Fort Sill for over 25 years.

Above all, Gail's greatest joy and most cherished role was that of a mother to Amy and Johnny. She was the steady hand, quiet confidant, and the guiding light through many unique challenges of living across the globe. She made sure her children always felt deeply rooted in love, regardless of their zip or APO code.

As her family grew, she became a doting grandmother who showered her five grandchildren with love, attention, and almost anything they wanted. She cherished the time she spent with them, and when she wasn't with them, they were her favorite topic of conversation.

She is survived by her sister, Maureen Smith of Newport News, VA; her children, Amy Mossman and her husband, Kenny, of Carnegie, Oklahoma and John Mizelle Jr. and his wife, Jennifer, of Newport News, Virginia; her 5 grandchildren, Amanda Mizelle, Hannah Murphy, Madison Mizelle, Reagan Mizelle and Andrew Mossman; and a wide, global circle of friends who became her chosen family along the way.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister, Mary Pat Turek.
