Private family graveside with military honors will be held to celebrate the life of Dwayne F. Brown.
Services are under the direction of the Becker-Rabon Funeral Home
The family will greet friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, September 14, 2026, at the funeral home.
Dwayne F. Brown, 97, of Lawton, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2026, at home surrounded by his family. He was born on December 28, 1928, in Chadwick, Missouri.
Dwayne was a man who believed in hard work, keeping his word, and living life with integrity. He started working at a young age, leaving school in the 9th grade to help support his mother. He began working on farms and then painting houses before joining the United States Navy at the age of 17, serving for a short time on a ship bringing fellow soldiers and sailors home. Following his time in the Navy, he became a painting contractor in Lawton, where he met his wife, Delsia Fitzgerald. For him, it was love at first sight. Together they raised 3 children and shared more than 55 years of marriage until her death in 2004.
Dwayne went on to become a successful home builder, developer, and realtor, building a career and reputation that he carried throughout his working years until his retirement. He was also a longtime member and commander of the local American Legion, where he served his community and formed many lasting friendships.
After retirement, Dwayne enjoyed having more time to do the things he loved most-hunting, fishing, gardening, playing guitar, and spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed going two-stepping on Saturday nights at the Legion with his friend Charlena Mask. He also loved watching the market and traded stock almost until the day he died.
Dwayne was always busy with a project in the barn. Whether he was woodworking, refurbishing an old tractor or boat, he was happiest when he had a project in front of him. One of the projects closest to his heart was working on his cabin in Colorado, where he enjoyed creating, building, and making memories with all the family who were encouraged to spend their vacations there (while helping with his projects, of course).
Dwayne was a man of integrity and honesty and a man of few words, but when he gave you his handshake, it was his bond. He was one of a kind and had a way of offering many pearls of wisdom without saying much at all. He didn't tell people how to live, but he set a wonderful example.
Dwayne is survived by his three children: Nancy McConahay and her deceased husband, Jim McConahay; Linda Fleur and her husband, John Fleur; and Dan Brown and Helen Pugh. He is also survived by his sisters, Christine Russell, Linda Garner, and Marilyn Carter; grandchildren Tonya Dawson and Jerry, Kristin Vanpool and Bill, Tracie Bennett and Wray, Nick Fleur and Trinity, and Haylee Brown-Kuri and Kayla Kuri; as well as several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Delsia Brown, and his sister, Sandra Rogers and brothers Ronnie and Dickie Brown
Dwayne leaves behind a legacy of hard work, honesty, wisdom, family, and a life well lived. His quiet strength, generous spirit, and example will continue to live on through the many people whose lives he touched.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Wounded Warrior Project or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, both near and dear to his heart, or a charity of your own choosing.
