Funeral service for Dovie Marie Fisher will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2018 in Peace Congregational Church with Rev. Wayne Schoonover officiating.
Burial will follow in Chattanooga Cemetery under direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.
Dovie Marie Fisher, age 93, Chattanooga, died Saturday, January 6, 2018 in Lawton. She was born July 13, 1924 in Waldron, Arkansas, to John Francis and Cleo Vivian (Dixon) Bland. She moved to the Indiahoma area in 1929 from Arkansas and grew up on a farm. She was a 1943 graduate of Indiahoma High School. Following high school she attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University and received an emergency war teaching certificate. Her first teaching assignment was at Indiahoma, later teaching for a year at Hiawatha School.
Dovie married Fred Fisher, Jr. on October 27, 1945 in Lawton and the couple moved to the farm north of Chattanooga. Fred died on February 18, 1995 and Dovie continued living on the farm until this past year.
She was a member of Peace Congregational Church and taught the Ladies Bible Class, Children's Bible Classes and Vacation Bible School for 40 years. She was an avid reader, often reading a book a day, frequently writing her own review inside the book cover. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles and rarely missed a day completing the puzzle in the newspaper.
Dovie dedicated her life to raising her four children and was a devoted farm wife. She was a wonderful mother and each of her children had a special relationship with their mother. She loved visits with her grandchildren and they enjoyed her recollections of farm life where she would tell of pulling cotton, milking cows, butchering chickens, gardening, canning food and sewing clothes. She and Fred would work from daylight to dark. After Fred's death she had the opportunity to take several trips with her daughter and son-in-law. She also had a special interest in birds and was fond of feeding and identifying them.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and John Badaracco; two sons and daughters-in-law, Clifford and Ivy Fisher and John Mark and Paula Fisher; her daughter-in-law, Linda Fisher; grandchildren and their spouses, Tom and Shawn Fisher, John David Fisher, Sarah Marie Fisher, Chad and Amanda Fisher, Tami and Jay Morefield and Heather and Quinton Murr; great grandchildren, Bradley Thomas Fisher, Cody Fisher, Catherine Marie Fisher, Addie Fisher, Stephanie Morefield, Ayla Morefield Kylie Fisher, Madison Fisher, Tobie Fisher, Evey Fisher, Olivia Fisher, Cord Fisher and Mayleigh Murr; brother-in-law, Adam Fisher; and sisters-in-law, Martha Krasser and Rachel Butenschoen.
Her parents, husband, son, Chester Lee Fisher, sister, Atha Mae Fisher, and her brother, Chester Bland, preceded her in death.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Peace Congregational Church, the Chattanooga Cemetery or to Gideon's International.
