On February 22, 2025, Dorthy Marie Mantooth, 95, passed away peacefully at home, just as she had wished. She was born on July 16, 1929, at her grandmother's home in Henderson, Texas, as the first child of Oda (Reed) and Roy Lee Lindsey. Dorthy was raised on a farm near Carnegie, Oklahoma, and spent her childhood on various farms throughout Caddo County alongside her seven siblings: Lee Roy, Louise, Kenneth, Milton, Charles, Carol Wayne, and Keith.
While in high school in Fletcher, Dorthy met the love of her life, Joe Mantooth Jr. They married on May 31, 1947, and together they operated a shoe repair shop. While Joe served in the Oklahoma National Guard in Japan and Korea, Dorthy lived in Lawton, working as a waitress. After his service, they settled into their home and raised two daughters, Deborah Jo and Mary Kay.
Dorthy had a passion for cooking, sewing, quilting, crocheting, reading, gardening, board and card games, fishing, camping, walking, and traveling. Her homemade yeast rolls were legendary and cherished by family and friends. After 44 years of marriage, Joe passed away in 1991. In the years that followed, Dorthy dedicated herself to her faith and found joy, purpose, and companionship in the work and fellowship of Northside Baptist Church.
Dorthy was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws, (Joseph and Mentie Mantooth, Mel and Wanda Riemer, Albert Hunter), three nephews, Jeff Lindsey, Carl Lee Riemer, Greg Hunter, two grandchildren, Jennifer and Kristie Caldwell.
Dorthy is survived by daughters, Deborah (Ronnie) Letourneau, Mary Kay Loughridge, four grandchildren, Scott Letourneau and Casey, Cassie, and Charlie Loughridge, 13 great grandchildren, two brothers, Milton and Keith, one sister, Louise, 15 nieces and nephews, and four special Lincoln Avenue "neighborhood kids", Anita, Carolyn, Tom, and Tracy.
