Saturday evening, January 2, 2016, Dorothy Wood, of Lawton, passed away peacefully from this life to her Heavenly home. She was 91 years old.

Dorothy was born on July 24, 1924 to Homer and Betty Haggard in Witzel, Texas. From there, the family moved to McKinney Texas, where Dorothy grew up with four brothers and four sisters. It was in McKinney where Dorothy met Leeland Verdell (LV) Brawner. The two were married on February 16, 1940. They moved to Shawnee, Oklahoma and raised three sons, Richard, Don, and Larry. The family lived in Shawnee for many years, and celebrated 50 years of marriage while residing there. During their life in Shawnee, Dorothy and Leeland were founding charter members of Shawnee Christian Church. After her retirement as an accountant for Sunset Estates Nursing Home in Shawnee, Dorothy and Leeland moved to their house at Lake Texoma, where they resided until Leeland passed away. Eventually, Dorothy met and married Lt. Colonel Billy Wood and the two also lived at Lake Texoma until his untimely death. At that time, Dorothy moved to Lawton, OK and most recently resided at Ten Oaks Senior Living Center. After she moved to Lawton, Dorothy served as an officer for the Department of Corrections and supported the ministry of the Redemption Church for the inmates at the Lawton Pre-release Center. As an officer, she reached many young men and helped them find their way back to civil responsibility.

Dorothy is survived by her sons, Richard (Dick) Brawner and his wife, Linda, of Lawton, OK, Larry and his wife, Teresa, of Oklahoma City, OK, her sisters, Barbara and Betty Jo, and a brother, Billy Homer. She was blessed with nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She also loved the children and grandchildren from her marriage to Billy Wood. She brought light and joy to both of the families.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband LV Brawner, husband Billy Wood, her son Don, two sisters and three brothers.
