Dorothy Louise Tracy passed away Monday, November 11, 2024, surrounded by family after her long battle with an illness.

Dorothy was a wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and dedicated worker who showed her love through extravagant gifts and her zest for life and family. The youngest of 14 children, Dorothy was born on Feb. 24, 1945, in New Salisbury, Indiana, to Sherman and Patience Byrne. After graduating high school in 1963, Dorothy moved from Indiana to Tampa, Florida. Here, she met her soon-to-be husband, U.S. Army SFC Gerald Tracy Sr. The couple fell in love and married on September 23, 1965. While moving between U.S. Army bases, Dorothy and Gerald would soon welcome their children, LaQuita and Gerald Jr. The young family would live in international locals - Okinawa and Panama - before returning stateside to Lawton, Oklahoma where he would retire in 1983. The family of four began to take root in Oklahoma. Dorothy spent her days caring for her children while working small jobs up until starting what would be a 25-plus-year career with JC Penney at Central Mall. Dorothy continued with her work as a homemaker and JCPenney's associate through it all, including the time when her husband fell ill with cancer. Dorothy's zest for life and desire to care for her family continued to grow alongside her age when her children began to have their own. Dorothy's favorite times included the holidays, both Thanksgiving and Christmas, a time she got to revel in her youth, making traditional snacks and decorating her home for the family to arrive. Her favorite treats to make and pass down through the generations were her Christmas cookies and fudge, still made yearly.

Dorothy spent the better part of the last decade in Texas, near her son. These times saw Dorothy truly step into the grandmother, and soon thereafter, great-grandmother roles. Although her body was fighting multiple illnesses, Dorothy still lit up at the sight of her family, immediately cracking wise jokes and finding a way to light up the room, while still ensuring ways to give the young one's gifts.

Dorothy is survived by her children, LaQuita Rabanal and her husband Reuben, Gerald Tracy Jr. and his wife Frances, and grandchildren Gerald Tracy III, Matthew Tracy, Katelyn Brown, Michael Rabanal, David Rabanal, Jonathan Rabanal, and Jacob Rabanal. She also leaves behind great-grandchildren Elijah, Owen, Samuel, Luke, Leo, Matteo, and James.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be sent to Michael J. Fox for Parkinson's Research at https://www.michaeljfox.org.
