Dorothy Louise Meek was born November 20, 1919, in Valparaiso, Indiana. She was the youngest of three children born to David Eugene Bennett and Nellie Elizabeth Knapp. Dorothy was raised in Valparaiso until the age of two, at which time the family moved to a farm in New York. At the age of five, the family relocated to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she spent the rest of her childhood. Dorothy graduated from Tulsa Central High in 1937 and attended the Oklahoma School of Business. During that time, Dorothy met her future husband, Jack Hayden Meek. Jack enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1938 and was stationed at Fort Sill. They married in Tulsa on April 14, 1940, and made their first home in Lawton where their sons Robert Kent and Lewis Arden were born. After returning to Lawton on one of their assignments, they had a third son, Richard David. One of their most enjoyable assignments was two years in the Panama Canal Zone in the mid-1940s. Throughout their marriage, Dorothy was a resourceful homemaker and loving parent to her children. After Jack retired from the Army at Ft. Sill, they founded a successful trophy and engraving business, Grav-A-Name. Dorothy worked in the business part time, while continuing to keep the family's household. Dorothy and Jack were active members of First Christian Church, offering their talents and time to support their church community. After retirement, they continued their service, but also enjoyed spending more time with their friends, often traveling together to various places. As their family continued to grow, they enjoyed holiday gatherings and meals with their children and their growing families. Dorothy's interests and hobbies included gardening, canning, sewing, crocheting, knitting, and many other creative pursuits. She was also a member of Eastern Star and actively participated in PTA, manning election polls, and other civic activities. Dorothy won many awards at fairs for her canning and handwork. Numerous family members and friends enjoyed the afghans, sweaters, lace, and special foods she lovingly created. Survivors include three sons, Robert Kent Meek and his wife Fang Ya, Lewis Arden Meek and his wife Karen Scott and Richard David Meek, ten grandchildren, Adelbert Meek, Lauren Kay Marshall, Faith Marie Carrizales, Darlene Rose Clevenger, Scott Allan Meek, Julia Anne Chambers, Daniel Preston Meek, Phillip Jon Kanjuka, Preston Michael Meek and Breanna L.
