Funeral service for Dorothy Olive "Granny" Cortez will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 19, 2017 in Becker-Rabon Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Dorothy Olive "Granny" Cortez, age 90, Lawton, was called home the evening of Monday, May 15, 2017. She was born July 4, 1926 in Carthage, Missouri. She was one of fifteen children born to Valentine and Jennie Cortez, moving and settling in Lawton with her family in 1948 as a young woman.
She was a homemaker, loved to cook and most importantly, take care of her grandchildren. No one ever called her Dorothy. Her name to all family and friends was "Granny". She spent over fifteen years cooking breakfast and walking her grandchildren to and from school everyday. Her grandchildren were her world and in her eyes could never do any wrong. The four of them were her angels. Granny was a very lucky woman. Not only did she get to raise her grandchildren, she got to help raise her great-grandchildren and spend a lot of time with her great-great grandchildren.
In her early years after all her "Granny duties" were done she would take off walking to the Hi-Hat Bar on Second Street where she would enjoy a few "cold ones" with her friends. If you were ever to go looking for Granny and she wasn't home everyone knew the Hi-Hat is where you would find her.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Joseph Pulliam, both of Lawton; three grandchildren, Sedric Flynn, Lawton, Harry Allen Flynn and wife Cathy, Gaithersburg, Maryland and Angela Green and husband Bobby, Lawton; twelve great grandchildren, Whitney Flynn, Lawton, Ryan Flynn, Lawton, Shane Grisanti, New York, New York, Christopher Christian, Chattanooga, Oklahoma, Shelbie Kinnaird, Lawton, Lamont Hollman, Lawton, Drake Flynn, Gaithersburg, Maryland, Bobby D. Green, Lawton, Addisyn Green, Lawton, Shaquille Scallion, Lawton, Kamryn Sumlin, Hobart, Oklahoma, Jada Green, Hobart and Jervon Galvan, Temple, Oklahoma; her brother Marcus Cortez and wife Juanita, Lawton; four great great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, thirteen siblings and her oldest grandson, Harry Wayne Flynn.
