Doris C. Horton, age 93, of Lawton, passed away Sunday, December 11, 2016 in Lawton.

Doris Corinne Claybaugh was born on October 11, 1923 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at her family home to John Thomas and Martha Elizabeth Claybaugh. She moved to Seminole as a child and graduated as Valedictorian from Varnum High School in 1941.

After graduating, Doris moved to Lawton to work at the Ft. Sill book store where she met Walter who was an Army Field Artillery officer. They were married May 22, 1948. Doris followed him to army posts that included Hawaii, Ft. Hood, Germany and Ft. Bragg, finally returning to Ft. Sill in 1959 where Walter retired in 1961.

During this time Doris and Walt had two daughters, Elaine and Peggy.

Doris returned to work in 1965 and retired from Non-Appropriated Funds in 1985.

Doris was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School, participated in the Women's Circle, and served on various other church committees. She served as Campfire leader in the 1960's and enjoyed playing bridge in different groups throughout the years. For many years she prepared no-cost tax returns through AARP at the Center for Creative Living.

Doris is survived by Walter, of the home, a sister Emma Nichols, a brother John and his wife Mary, all of Tulsa; her two daughters and their husbands, Elaine and Rick Abercrombie of Irmo, SC, and Peggy and Bob Cooksey of Yukon, OK; her five grandchildren Katherine and her husband Tommy Flynn, Janet Abercrombie, Sarah and her husband Misha Lomize, Steven and his wife Paula Cooksey, and Angela Cooksey.

The family sincerely thanks Hwang Myong Suk and Inga Johnson for the loving care you gave our mother in the past six months.

Doris loved all her family fiercely and would do anything for us. Her advice to parents is, "Take your children to church!"

Memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 7110 W. Gore Blvd, Lawton, OK 73505 .
