Dora Norrell, 89, of Lawton, Oklahoma, passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, in Lawton.
She was born on July 1, 1936, near Faxon, Oklahoma, to Herman and Mary (Spencer) Bangerter. Dora graduated from Faxon High School in 1954, where-true to her spirited personality-she was crowned homecoming queen. She married the love of her life, Marvin Norrell, on October 9, 1955, in Faxon. They shared 56 wonderful years together before his passing on March 15, 2012.
Dora remained on the family farm until 2018. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who loved the country life, her horses, and working in the yard. More than anything, she cherished time with her granddaughter, Kaylee. The two shared countless shopping trips to Dillard's and always ended the day with pretzel bites before heading home-memories that Kaylee will forever treasure.
She is survived by her daughter, Melinda Norrell Shoemate of Cache, Oklahoma; her granddaughter, Kaylee Shoemate Cogswell, and husband Garrison "Brock" Cogswell of Lawton, Oklahoma; her "bonus son," Jake Middleton of Faxon, Oklahoma; close friend, Donna Howell of Faxon; sister-in-law, Peggy Waltman of Sayre, Oklahoma; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Dora was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marvin; her in-laws, Bob and Maude Norrell; and her son-in-law, Russell Shoemate.
Memorial contributions may be made in Dora's memory to First Baptist Church of Cache, 401 W. E Ave., Cache, OK 73527, or online at https://fbccache.org.
