Obituary

Donald Wade Wilson, age 73 , passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 in Lawton, Oklahoma with his wife and family by his side. He was born on February 1, 1951, in Mesa, Arizona to Herman and Blanche J. Wilson. Donald, affectionately known as Donnie, lived a life marked by love, generosity, and a passion for motorsports.

A service to honor Donnie's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at Letitia Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Bubba Clark.  Following the service he will be laid to rest at Highland Cemetery under direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.

Donnie spent his adult life in the car industry. He was a salesman for various dealerships in town until he opened his own lot, Donald Wilson Used Cars. Donnie was known as a man of honesty, integrity, generosity and just plain fun! He made many lifelong friends out of his former bosses and his customers. He loved getting together with them to play "cards", watching NASCAR, going to OU football games and evenings out dancing.

In 1994, Donnie's twinkling eyes caught sight of a cute little thing whose dance moves were almost as good as his. It didn't take him long to realize that she was the love of his life and on May 25, 1996, he made Toni Hill his wife. Donnie and Toni spent the next years of their lives adopting and loving every stray dog that showed up at their steps (even neighbor dogs would come over 'cause they knew Donnie had the good food). Donnie even fell in love with cats when he found out they would kill snakes! Over time, many cats actually moved into the house.

Donnie was a devoted husband to Toni, and a loving father to his son Branden Wilson and daughter Amy Wilson. Branden played a pivotal role in fulfilling his father's dreams of meeting his drag racing idol, John Force, and attending the Daytona 500. These experiences were cherished highlights in Donnie's life, often recounted during family gatherings. He also cherished his daughter-in-law Keela Wilson and grandchildren Aubrey and Jarrett Wilson.

Beyond his immediate family, Donnie's legacy is carried on by his brothers, Wayne Wilson (Judy) of Moore, Oklahoma, Gary Wilson (Gail) of North Carolina, and Pete Wilson of Lawton, Oklahoma; his sisters, Debra Melton (Bill) of Lawton, Melba Mahaffay of Moore, Oklahoma, and Jean Ann Peace (Mike) of Flower Mound, Texas. He also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, very special life-long friends, and his beloved companions, Snowflake and Max.

Donnie was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Jerry and Danny Wilson, two nephews, and his mother-in-law, LaVita Hill. Donnie's life was a testament to the enduring strength of familial bonds and the deep impressions personal passions can leave on one's life. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.

A Special Thank You to those who just stepped in and helped us, even when we didn't realize we needed the help. Your prayers, calls, visits, support and encouragement, taking care of the yard and dog pens, helping with his business, bringing food and groceries, running errands and so much more gave us such peace of mind. We are blessed with wonderful people in our lives and Donnie loved every one of you.
