Obituary

TSgt (Retired) Donald R. Thurman, age 69, of Lawton, Oklahoma, passed away on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 surrounded by loved ones.

Donald was born in Shirley, Massachusetts, October 22, 1955 to Dorris and Joanne Thurman. He lived in Lawton for many years, where he was known for his warmth, loyalty, and dedication to serving others.

He honorably served in the United States Air Force, where he displayed courage, discipline, and a strong sense of duty. His time in service shaped him in many ways and earned him respect from those who served alongside him. He always loved talking about being a Tech Sergeant (TSgt).

Outside of his military service, Donald was known for his restless energy and an ever-curious spirit, always finding a new project-or mischief-around the house. There was never a dull moment when he was nearby. He was a loving husband, father, brother, Grengogg and was always there to lend a hand.

Donald is survived by his loving wife, Sherrill Thurman; his siblings, Richard and Kathleen Thurman, Kenneth Thurman and Mike, Sherrie Rhine, and Rohn and Betty Thurman; his children, Jennifer and Rex Kerr, Jeffery and Steaphanie Thurman, Stephen Thurman, Hillary Thurman, and Jeremy Thurman; his grandchildren, Ryan and Katlyn Kerr, Brandon Kerr, Jaime Thurman, Emilie Kerr, Jaiden Kerr, Sophia Kerr, and Emersyn Thurman; his great-granddaughter, Amelia Kerr; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends who will always have a good story to tell. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorris and Joanne Thurman; his brother, John Thurman; and his great-grandchildren, Adalynn Kerr and Walker James Kerr .

The family will greet friends on Monday, October 6, 2025 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Becker-Rabon Funeral Home. Graveside service with full military honors will be Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Fort Sill National Cemetery.
