Arrangements are under the direction of Becker Funeral Home. He was born on February 13, 1930, to the late Robert and Ruth Wrede, and raised in the Erlanger, KY/Cincinnati, Ohio area. He was preceded in death by his loving and supportive wife, Priscilla Wrede, and his grandson Steve Wrede. He is survived by Jan Wrede/Umlauf, his children Sam Wrede of Colorado Springs, CO, Rebecca Ledwin of Fairport, NY, David Wrede of Lexington, KY, Linda Seaman of Yakima, WA, Beth Allen of Elba, NY, Jim and Paul Rosenbaum from the "Vine Street Gang" in Cincinnati, his step-daughters Marian Holmes of Ashland, VA, Barbara Koch of Mechanicsville, VA, and Carolyn Hoskins of Aylett, VA, his brother Robert Wrede of Aptos, CA, as well as thirteen grandchildren and one great granddaughter. He was also a Fulbright lecturer in physics at Cheng Kung University in Taiwan for two years. Later he worked for 18 years in a job he truly enjoyed as the head of radiation oncology at Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton, OK. Don's intellectual strengths and love of medicine allowed him to contribute to the care of many cancer patients. Although he retired' three times prior, his final retirement came approximately one year ago at the age of 79. His work ethics and kindness will leave a legacy to his family and those whose lives he touched. Don was a quiet, unassuming, hard working man. He and Jan worked very hard to raise five children. Don and his brother were the first in his family to go to college. He was an excellent athlete in his early days, competing in track, football, body building, gymnastics and hand balancing. He also loved the outdoors, gardening, and his beloved bird sanctuary. Don was an active member of First Baptist Church, singing in the choir and teaching the Closer Walk Bible Study Class. He had a strong faith and strived to be a humble servant of God.
