Dolores was born on March 30, 1929 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Thelma Louise and Harold Lester Jones. At the age of 6 her family moved to California where she lived in San Bruno until she was 16. Then they moved to San Diego where she graduated from Hoover High School in 1947 and worked at a local movie theater. She married John Parker Elliott, a seaman in the United States Navy from Denver, Colorado, on June 17, 1949. Dolores loved her job as a wife and mother and raised three wonderful children. She was active in many local activities, a member and President of Beta Sigma Phi, and a member and officer of the Daughters of the Nile. She and her husband were charter members of Clairemont Christian Church for 33 years where Dolores was active in Christian Women's Fellowship, sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and served as a deaconess, and elder. She crocheted as a pastime and enjoyed camping trips with her family. She was an excellent cook and was famous for her peanut brittle, lemon meringue pie, and award-winning blue ribbon carrot cake. Faith and family were very important to her and took priority in her life. She will be remembered as a generous woman with a gracious heart and a love for Jesus. When her husband retired from the San Diego Police Department, he and Dolores traveled and continued to stay active in church. She taught Sunday School and served as a deaconess and elder at Torrey Pines Christian Church where she and her husband were members for 23 years. They started a card ministry at the church, which lasted nine years, creating their own cards and poetry. After their move to Oklahoma, Dolores continued to have a caring form of card ministry for residents of BrookRidge Retirement Community in Lawton, where she resided.
