Dennis Lloyd "Papa" Foster died Monday, February 23, 2026 in Lawton, Oklahoma at the age of 79. He was born January 14, 1947, in Lawton to Lloyd J. Foster, Jr and Bertie Lois (McDonald) Foster. Dennis was raised in Lawton and graduated from Lawton High School in 1965. While in high school, he raised and showed pigs as a member of the Future Farmers of America. On March 16, 1967 he married Linda Sue Porter, and they would eventually add four children to the family.

Dennis held numerous jobs such as delivering flowers for a nursery and working at a piano shop. But it wasn't until the early 1970s that he found his true passion, working in the optical industry. He was hired as a lab technician at Tom Brown Optical in Lawton. He started out making eyeglasses in the lab and eventually would move up the ladder to lab manager. He worked there until 1984, when he, and three partners who believed in him, opened their own lab, Dunlaw Optical Laboratories. He would start from the ground up, building the business one customer at a time. He worked tireless hours but loved every minute. He then opened a second business in 1986, Modern Eyes Ltd, which remains a family business today. He was very successful in both businesses, and was highly respected by customers and employees. In 2004, he sold Dunlaw Optical to Essilor of America, a leader in the optical industry. He continued to work as the lab manager until his retirement in 2012. After retirement, he decided he still wanted to work, so he went back to Dunlaw Optical as an hourly employee, where he worked until his final retirement in 2021.

Dennis was a dedicated member of the Lawton Noon Lions Club for over 45 years. He held numerous positions to include President but was mostly known for handling the ticket sales at the annual Lions Club Carnival, which he looked forward to each spring. He was very instrumental in the logistics of that event, and had been given the nickname, Dennis "Carnie" Foster, by some of the other members. Dennis is a Melvin Jones Fellow, a very prestigious award in Lions.

He found great joy in trains, both full-size locomotives and intricate model layouts. He loved old-time radio programs, storms, trying his luck at the casino, and feeding the squirrels in his back yard. He would buy pecans 100 pounds at a time so he wouldn't run out. What he loved the most, was spending time with family. When he passed, his family was there by his side.

He is survived by two daughters, Kristi Fields, Geronimo, and Kimberly Moody, Prosper, TX; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Whitney Foster, Lawton; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Stephen and Robin Foster, and James and Donna Foster, all of Lawton; 8 grandchildren, Jon Fields, Ryan Fields, Melissa Foster, Ashton Foster, Lilah Foster, Bailey Modesitt, Riley Modesitt, and Kinley Moody; 1 great-grandchild, Chase Wright; numerous nieces and nephews.

His parents, his wife, a stillborn son, Dennis Keith Foster, a son, Dennis Scott Foster, and one brother, Richard Foster preceded him in death.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lawton Noon Lions Club, P.O. Box 673, Lawton, Oklahoma 73502.
