Obituary

Funeral service for Dennis "Denny" Charles Swanda will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2024, at Church of the Nazarene, Carnegie, Oklahoma with Randy Perkins and Jeanie Miller, of Carnegie, Oklahoma, officiating.

Dennis "Denny" Charles Swanda was born on Columbus Day, October 12, 1943, in Carnegie, Oklahoma, and went home to be with his heavenly father on March 27, 2024, at 80.

Denny was the second child of Buster and Clara Vee Swanda of Carnegie, Oklahoma. He participated in many school activities, such as FFA and band, leaving no doubt that he was proud to be a Wildcat. He graduated high school in 1962 and attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University, where he met and later married his wife of 55 years, Juanita. Together, Denny and Juanita had two children and three grandchildren.

After graduating college, Denny enlisted in the United States Army, and perhaps that is when his and Juanita's love of travel began. They traveled the world (including all 50 United States); however, their choice of a winter home was in South Texas in the Town of Pharr, where they enjoyed playing pool, the pool, square dancing, Mexican Train Dominoes, and being with friends. After Juanita's passing in 2020, Denny continued to enjoy being at the park. Eventually, sparks flew between him and Gerrie Pozen (it started while watching the movie Elvis), and they slowly blended their pastimes, with Denny trying line-dancing and volleyball and Gerrie shooting pool and taking square dance lessons. Denny and Gerrie truly enjoyed and loved each other's company. Undoubtedly, Denny will be greatly missed by her and his surviving family.

Denny is survived by his companion, Geraldine "Gerrie" Pozen; a son, William Charles; a daughter, Marna Franklin and her husband, Brian; three grandchildren, Sean Charles, Jack Dennis, and Kennedy Lea; two brothers, Joe Allen and Pat Allen; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Buster and Clara Vee of Carnegie; a sister, Patty Ann of the home; and his wife, Juanita (Beall) Swanda.
