Graveside funeral service for Daniel Gordon Harkins will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 10, 2016 in Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin with Santiago "Ponce" Leon, pastor of Victorious Faith Center, Boone-Apache, Oklahoma officiating.

Burial with military honors will be under the direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.

The family will greet friends from 6-8 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.

Daniel Gordon Harkins, age 72, Elgin, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2016 at his residence. He was born January 3, 1944 at Krebs, Oklahoma. He left home at the age of 16 and joined the U.S. Army, where he served for six years. Following his discharge from the Army he lived in Germany for 15 years and owned and operated a bar. While in Germany he met Shirley Sisko at an NCO Club and they were married on March 24, 1979 in Ironwood, Michigan. She preceded him in death on December 28, 2009.

Daniel remained in Michigan for several years and later moved to Lawton. He worked as a mechanic at various places including Billingsley Ford. Prior to his illness he liked to fish and hunt but he always enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren.

He is survived by a daughter, Emily Mary Harkins; a son and daughter in law, Daniel J. and Amber Harkins; three granddaughters, Avigail, Eliana and Gwendolyn.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Evelyn (Byrd) Harkins.
