Obituary

CWO2 (Retired) John D. Matthiesen, 82, of Cache, Oklahoma passed away Saturday, December 27, 2025 at his home southeast of Cache.

No services are scheduled at this time.

CWO2 (Retired) John D. Matthiesen was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma, to John and Lillian Radell (Jones) Matthiesen. One of seven children, John grew up in a close-knit family led by his father, a Baptist preacher, which meant the family traveled often throughout his childhood. He graduated from Mountain Park High School in Mountain Park, Oklahoma.

A few years after graduation, John enlisted in the United States Navy in 1964 in San Diego, California. He served his country honorably for 22 years, retiring in 1985 in New Orleans, Louisiana. John specialized in communications, serving as a radio officer and an electronic equipment installation, maintenance, and repair officer. During his distinguished career, he served aboard two aircraft carriers, the USS Forrestal and the USS Nimitz .

John married Lynette MacKay on March 3, 1967, in Christchurch, New Zealand, after meeting while he was stationed near the area. Together, they shared a life filled with travel and service. John especially enjoyed traveling in their motor home to Louisiana, Alabama, and Florida. His hobbies included collecting coins and currency, snorkeling, collecting seashells, playing softball as a pitcher, and spending time with their beloved dogs and cats.

John and Lynette were deeply proud of their commitment to family and community, having fostered 82 children throughout their life together-a legacy of compassion and generosity that defined them both.
