Command Sergeant Major Greer, 89, died Sunday, October 6, 2024, at his home in Lawton. He was born on May 27, 1935, in Louisville, Kentucky, to Jessie and Mary (Bledsoe) Greer.

He enlisted in the military and served 28 ½ years. He was awarded the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star with one oak leaf cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Army Commendation Medal with four oak leaf clusters, Army of Occupation Medal (Germany), National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross w/Palm, Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device. Sergeant Major Greer was awarded the Order of Saint Barbara at Fort Sill and was a 32nd Degree Master Mason. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, The Vietnam Veterans of America, and a member of the Association of the US Army. He was a member of New Post Chapel on Fort Sill, where he and his wife attended services.

Command Sergeant Major Greer married the love of his life, Rosemarie Reiter, in November 1957 in Schwabisch Gmund, Germany. They celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary in November 2015. Rosemarie passed away on January 11, 2016. One of their life goals was for him and his wife to do everything they could, as a family, with their son, David, and watch him grow up. They wanted him to have a good education and enjoy life, have a successful career and to raise a family when he married. All these things they saw come to pass in their lifetime. The family did everything together: hunting, fishing, waterskiing, traveling, restoring old cars and trucks, and competing in car shows and events. Dirt track motorcycle racing was another full pastime.

Command Sergeant Major Greer was a loving husband, father, granddad (Opa), and friend to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.

Command Sergeant Major Greer is survived by one son, David, his wife, Liza, and two loving grandchildren, granddaughter Dominique, and grandson Matteo.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemarie, his parents, three sisters, Edna, Vera, and Louise, and two brothers, Ernest and Gail.
