Coy W. Watson was born in Mountain Park, Oklahoma on March 16, 1925, to Virgil O. Watson and Clara Mabel Slaybaugh and passed away in Lawton, on December 11, 2018, at the age of 93.
Coy, known to family and many friends as Bud or Buddy, married the love of his life, Betty L. Cunningham on July 25, 1953.
Coy is a graduate of Mountain Park High School and the University of Oklahoma, where he received a Bachelor's degree. He served in the Army Air Corps in World War II as a bombardier in a B-29 Superfortress.
Coy taught high school mathematics in Snyder and Wynnewood and then embarked on a more than fifty-year career in the insurance industry. He worked for The Hartford Insurance Company, Charles F. Curry Insurance Company, and owned and operated the Coy W. Watson Insurance Agency in Lawton for more than 20 years. He was a long time member of the Kiwanis Club in Lawton.
Coy was an avid sportsman. He played basketball, baseball, and golf but his first love was tennis. He began playing tennis as a boy in Mountain Park, where he played on a dirt court and continued playing into his mid-80s, when he was still playing tennis at least three times per week. As much as he loved participating in sports, he was even more passionate about watching his children and grandchildren playing baseball, softball, tennis, and golf.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Cecil, Jack, and Woodrow; and five sisters: Lola McLaury, Amy O'Brien, Alice Fulps, Billie Marie Cook, and an infant sister, Edna.
He is survived by his wife, Betty, and sons Bradford James Watson and his wife Lori of Lawton and Timothy Lee Watson and his wife Terri of Southlake, Texas; grandchildren Blake James Watson and his wife Samantha of Oklahoma City; Jordan Scott Watson and his wife Jessica of Oklahoma City; Patrick McGuire Watson of Austin, Texas; Caroline McGuire Watson of Chicago, Illinois; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
