Colleen Dawnette Puanani Kau Patterson, 71, of Lawton, Oklahoma, passed away on Friday, September 26, 2025, from natural causes surrounded by her loving family.
Colleen was born June 12, 1954, in West Point, New York, the daughter of Mary Lyons and Wood Kau Sr. She had 9 siblings. Her father was in the Army.
Colleen married Donald Eugene Patterson on June 18, 1977, in Reno, Nevada, at the Chapel of Promise. Colleen and Donald were married for 48 years and together for 50 years. In those wonderful years they started a family, and Colleen gave birth to two beautiful daughters, Kanoelani Patterson and Kahealani Dingle. Colleen was an active and retired military spouse for 48 years until her husband retired. She had different part-time jobs as her children got older but the best job she ever had was as the best mother and wife to her family, whom she loved dearly. Colleen loved the time she spent with her adopted grandchild, Liza Chavez also.
Colleen is survived by her husband, Donald Patterson, daughters, Kahealani Dingle and Kanoelani Patterson, and adopted grandchild, Liza Chavez, siblings, Lola Herron, Cathy Lewis, Robin Kau, Wendall Kau, Wayde Kau, Laurie Kau, and Julie Mendez. She also had many cousins, nieces and nephews, whom she loved so much and meant the world to her. Colleen was preceded in death by her brother Wood Kau, Jr, mother, Mary Lyons, and brother, Wesley Kau.
Colleen was a lifetime fan of the Dallas Cowboys and had a collection of Cowboys memorabilia that can be found all throughout her home. She loved Dem Boys! Colleen enjoyed arts and crafts and crocheted baby blankets for family and friends alike and also crotched hats and scarves for the homeless population. Colleen and her husband Donald loved helping those in need and they volunteered with the Salvation Army and homeless shelter. Colleen was a member of Cameron Baptist Church, in Lawton, Oklahoma. Colleen was a proud Hawaiian/Kanaka Maoli Wahine and loved taking time to look up genealogy and listen to her favorite Hawaiian music. Colleen was a dog lover and enjoyed throwing the ball to her dog Lanai and spending time with her grand dogs Leilani & Ali'i.
