Obituary

Memorial service for Clifford (Skip) Winston Holasek, Jr., 69, Lawton, will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 30, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church with Rev. Don Howard and Dan Tucker officiating. Mr. Holasek died Tuesday, November 26, at his residence. Cliff Holasek, the son of Clifford W. Holasek Sr. and Bernice (Haseley) Holasek was born December 1, 1943 in St. Paul, Minnesota, the younger of two children. In 1948, the family moved to Lynwood, CA where he graduated from Lynwood High School in 1961. Cliff worked at various jobs from the time he was thirteen years of age. After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force and went to basic training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas. Later, he was stationed at various bases including Cheyenne, WY, Savannah, GA and Guam. Cliff met Carolyn Marie Rieber in 1956 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lynwood, CA, where they were married on 6 March 1963. Both sons were baptized there and Cliff and Carolyn last attended church at St. Paul's in August of this year. Cliff and Carolyn celebrated their fiftieth anniversary in March. After being discharged from the Air Force, Cliff went directly to Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Los Angeles, who offered him a job in September, 1965. Cliff faithfully worked for Goodyear for over 38 years and retired on October 1, 2003. He held many jobs from tire builder to shift coordinator, transferring from Los Angeles to Lawton in 1978, as one of the very first employees at the Goodyear Lawton plant. Cliff was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, volunteering by mowing the grounds and taking care of landscape. He enjoyed spring turkey hunting, working in his yard, and playing all card games, especially poker, which he was able to do so up until the first of November. In March 1995, Cliff was diagnosed with renal cancer. After his kidney was removed, encapsulating the cancer, he was diagnosed as cancer-free and back at work six weeks later. In 2003, the cancer reappeared on his pancreas and again, the cancer was removed and Cliff was back to his active routine. Eighteen years after his first diagnosis, and many prayers and miracles later, Cliff will be remembered for his strong hope, perseverance, faith, tenacity and fight. He is survived by his wife Carolyn, son Cliff III of Dallas, son Carl and his wife Irma of Lawton, grandchildren Chloe and Cody, sister Judy Ropp and husband Earl of Oregon, mother-in-law Lettie Rieber of South Gate, CA, sister-in-law Judy Sharp of Alta Loma, CA, cherished neighbors Randy and Lisa Enix, and Belle, who stayed at his side until the end. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family would like to thank Marla Coleman, Marla Dodd, Fatamia Rucker, Christine Duggan and all of the staff and volunteers at Promise Care Hospice for their comforting hands and care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Promise Care Hospice, 4202 SW Lee Blvd, Lawton, OK 73505.
