Clayton transitioned peacefully from this life on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 surrounded by his wife, family and friends.
Services will be under direction of Becker Funeral Home of Lawton.
Clayton was born December 14, 1944, in Enid, Oklahoma to Clayton and Imogene Alexander. He grew up as the only child in a farming community of Broxton, Oklahoma with neighboring cousins and friends. Some of his favorite memories include creating a harness and wagon for his favorite dog Buzz, tending his pigeons, and swimming in the farm pond.
He graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor's in Education. Upon returning to Weatherford to complete his Master's in Education, he met his future wife Linda. Their romance blossomed during their many evening walks around the campus. Later that summer he met her children, Karen and Kevin, who quickly charmed their way into his life. Clayton and Linda married the following year on May 29, 1970 and shortly thereafter he adopted Karen and Kevin. They moved to Lawton where Clayton spent his career in Lawton Public Schools, teaching at Cleveland Elementary and serving as Principal of Swinney and Country Club Elementary Schools. Post retirement, he served as an Adjunct Professor at Cameron University and assisted Student Teachers with beginning their careers.
Outside of his work career, he had a passion for reading and learning about history, other cultures, and philosophies. Clayton cherished time spent with family and friends during their gatherings and travels. He enjoyed searching for unique antiques. He loved listening to a variety of music and especially to Linda playing the piano.
Clayton is survived by his wife Linda; his daughter Karen Gilbert and grandchildren Ashley Johson, Shelby Gilbert, and Tyler Gilbert; his son Kevin Alexander and wife Tamma and grandchildren Kaitlin Alexander and Kelsie Alexander. His great grandchildren include Kaiden Johnson, Kinley Johnson, Colin Ducker, Julian Wimsey and Holden Wimsey
He was preceded in death by Clayton Frank, Sr. and Imogene Alexander.
