Obituary

Claudette Burch Butemeyer, 88, passed away Monday, September 21, 2026, in Houston, Texas. She was born December 28, 1937, in Marlow, Oklahoma, to Farris Toliver "Karo" Taylor and Shirley Elmerine (Davis) Lassetter.

Claudette's school years were filled with wonderful memories, including cheerleading, playing the saxophone, performing as a majorette, and enjoying a full social calendar surrounded by many dear friends. She married Fred Eugene Burch on July 3, 1953 in Walters, Oklahoma. She was a loving mother and homemaker for their two daughters. Together, they shared 65 years of marriage and a lifetime of memories until his passing on January 31, 2018. Following high school, she attended cosmetology and beauty school, graduating in 1963. She went on to build a career as a beautician and salon owner, where her gift for making people feel beautiful was matched by her gift for making them feel welcome.

Claudette's talents and interests extended well beyond her salon. She served as business manager for Burch Construction and Burch Rentals and was always ready to lend her time and energy to the people and organizations she loved. She was a Bluebird leader, cheerleader coach, and a "slumber party planner extraordinaire" for her daughters. She embraced life with enthusiasm and had a special ability to turn ordinary occasions into cherished memories.

Claudette later married Jim Butemeyer on December 10, 2022, and they shared three years together until his passing on December 13, 2025.

Claudette was an active and devoted member of Centenary United Methodist Church, where she served as a board member and was an active member of the Centenary Sister Group. She was also a dedicated member of AMBUCS, serving in several leadership positions, including president of the local chapter.

Claudette will be lovingly remembered by her daughter and son-in-law, Fredda Carol and Barry Steinberg of Houston, Texas; her son-in-law and his wife, Harry D. and Marilyn Kirk of Houston, Texas; five grandchildren and their spouses, Taylor and Daniel McGee, Tara and Ben Aldridge, Ashley Ledbetter, Michael and Lainee Steinberg, and Julee and Kevin Loeb; nine great-grandchildren, Andie, Kaden, Molly, Jordan, Carson, Cooper, Landon, Rowan, and Levi; her brother-in-law and his wife, David "Chigger" and Diana Burch; her "honorary daughter," Jan Stinnett; a special cousin and her husband, Sherri and Tom Wilson; and many loving nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Fred E. Burch; her daughter, Reta Cheryl Kirk; and her second husband, Jim Butemeyer.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at Centenary United Methodist Church with Rev. James B. Graham, III, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home, Lawton, Oklahoma.

The family will greet friends from 5-7 pm Monday at the funeral home for visitation.

Memorial contributions may be made to Centenary United Methodist Church, Lawton AMBUCS, or MD Anderson Lynch Syndrome Research.
