Age 79, Lawton - Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Saturday, December 27, 2008 at the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Rev. Stanley Baker, pastor of Northside Baptist Church and Dr. Samuel Craig, chaplain, Hospice of Southwest Oklahoma officiating. Mrs. Ross died Thursday in Lawton. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. She was born April 18, 1929 in Frederick to Otis J. and Orva A. (Stout) Fillmore. She graduated from Hollister School in 1947 and also graduated from Central State College at Edmond in 1951 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Business. She married Don B. Ross on July 11, 1952 in Frederick. He died July 29, 2006. Mrs. Ross taught for one year each at Fairview, Oklahoma, Scott's one room school, Geronimo Schools and Fort Sill Indian School. She started teaching at Eisenhower High School in 1962 and taught there until her retirement in May 1989. She did substitute teaching and tutoring in the years that she was not teaching full time. Mrs. Ross was a member of Northside Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the Comanche County Retired Educator's Association and the Oklahoma Education Association. She loved camping trips with her family and friends. She never forgot a birthday or name. Survivors include a daughter, Denise A. Hale and her friend Steven McCarter, three sons, Kenneth D. Ross and Steven L. Ross, all of Lawton and Robert D. Ross and his wife Ellen E., Orlando, Florida, seventeen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren, two brothers and their spouses, Cloyde A. and Carolyn Fillmore, Tulsa and Rex and Laurie Fillmore, Frederick and three sisters, Patsy Bradley, Elgin, Marlene Stevens and Lynda Callaham and husband Gary, all of Frederick and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by a son, Donald L. Ross, and three grandchildren, Connie M. Ross, T. J. Ross and Linda Ray Dove. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1320 N.W.
