Chung Hee West, 76, of Lawton, Oklahoma, passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at Memorial Health-Lawton. She was born on May 15, 1950, in Inwang-San, South Korea. Chung Hee was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and a woman whose life touched the hearts of countless people. She was loving, funny, generous, caring, hardworking, determined, and strong-willed. Those who knew her best would also say she had a stubborn side that was uniquely her own. Her strength, perseverance, and unwavering determination were qualities that carried her throughout her life. Chung Hee was a successful businesswoman and entrepreneur. She began her professional career as a real estate agent with RE/MAX, where she built lasting relationships and became known for her dedication, hard work, and genuine love for people. She later followed her passion for cooking and her love of bringing people together by becoming the proud owner of Chung's Korean Restaurant and Bar in Lawton, Oklahoma. Her restaurant became much more than a place to enjoy a meal. It was a gathering place where family, friends, and members of the community came together to celebrate, share food, laugh, and create memories. Some of her family's most treasured memories were made at her restaurant during the many celebrations and special moments she hosted there. Through her cooking and hospitality, Chung Hee had a special gift for making people feel welcome and bringing people together. After many years of serving her community through both real estate and her restaurant, Chung Hee closed her restaurant in 2020 due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and retired from her working career. In retirement, she enjoyed the things that brought her the most joy: cooking, gardening, Korean gospel music, spending time with her family and friends, animals, Korean culture, origami, church, and jewelry. She was especially known for her love for Jesus Christ. Her faith was a deeply important part of her life. Chung Hee was a member of Evergreen Korean Church, and she carried her faith with her throughout her life's journey. One of the scriptures that reflected her strength and faith was Philippians 4:13: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
Chung Hee was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Henry West.
She leaves behind her son, James Henry West II; her beloved grandchildren, Brooklyn Onyae West, Amiya Jaye West, Nevaeh Grace West, and Jennavecia Emily West; and her siblings, Pu Cha Dickerson and Leslie A. Dickerson. Chung Hee's legacy will live on through the people she loved, the family she cherished, the meals she prepared, the friendships she built, and the countless memories created around her restaurant table. She had a way of making people feel connected, welcomed, and loved. Her life was a testament to strength, faith, perseverance, family, hard work, and love. Though her family and friends will deeply miss her presence, they will continue to carry her memory forward through the traditions she created, the lessons she taught, the stories they share, and the love she gave so freely. Chung Hee's journey on earth may have come to an end, but the impact of her life will continue through the generations that follow her. She will forever be remembered as a strong woman, a loving mother and grandmother, a devoted woman of faith, a hardworking entrepreneur, and someone who loved people with her whole heart.
