Charles Arthur Grant departed this life in Lawton, Oklahoma on Monday, December 11, 2023.
He was born in Washington, D.C. to Marcellus Grant and Evelyn Cook Grant on January 31, 1950. During his early years as military brat, Charles moved with his family around the United States and in Europe.
During his junior high years, he attended St. Mary's Catholic School and continued through high school until St. Mary's closed, sending most of the students to Lawton High School. He split his senior year between Lawton High School and Columbus High School in Columbus, Ga.
He graduated from Cameron University in 1982 with a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. He also later attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University in pursuit of a master's degree in counseling together with his wife, Kimberly.
Charles spent 27 years in Law Enforcement. The highlights of his career were serving as an officer in the Lawton Police Department (LPD). While serving as a police officer with the LPD, he once augmented a special Secret Service Detail for President Gerald Ford, earning him recognition from President Ford and the Secret Service Detail for his professionalism during the Presidential visit to Comanche County. He was also the Chief of Security at Cameron University, a Deputy U.S. Marshall for Prisoner Transport (CONAIR), Director of Security and Human Resources for EZ-Go Foods, Inc. His final law enforcement job was with Lawton Public Schools prior to his retirement.
Following the death of his mother, he attended nursing school and was a nurse for another 14 years. The highlights of his nursing career were serving in the Cardiac Critical Care Unit at Comanche County Memorial Hospital and Frontier Medical Clinic.
In 1981 he married the love of his life, Kimberly Williams Rogers and became the stepfather to her sons Mark Rogers and Clinton Rogers.
He was preceded in death by his father, Marcellus Grant; and his mother Evelyn Grant Taylor, stepfather Jim Taylor; and grandparents Earl and Mildred Casey. A big regret of his life is that he was unable to meet with his biological father before he died, James E. Daly. However, he was able to reconnect with and gain 14 new first cousins, who have made his life full of family love and fulfillment for his waning years.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Kimberly Grant; his two stepsons Mark Rogers of Pawhuska, Okla; and Clinton Rogers of Durant, Okla; younger sister Beth Haggerty; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; several beloved cousins; and a host of nieces and nephews.
His services will be held at Carriage Hills Christian Church located at 3211 East Gore Blvd in Lawton, Oklahoma on Saturday December 16, 2023 at 2:00 pm.
The service may be viewed by visiting the Carriage Hills Christian Church Facebook page.
In lieu of flowers, Charlie's wishes were for any memorial contributions to be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Salvation Army.
