Funeral service for Charlene Hanza, 92, of Lawton, will be at 10:00 am on Monday, November 24, 2025 at St. John Lutheran Church with Rev. Dr Bill Schnieder officiating.
The family will greet friends Sunday, November 23, from 4-6 pm at Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.
She will be laid to rest at Highland Cemetery in Lawton, Oklahoma.
Charlene Hanza was born on April 1, 1933, in Frankell, Texas, to Herman and Lucy (Adams) Scoggins. She arrived to her home in heaven on November 19, 2025, at the age of 92.
Charlene was the second of four children and grew up near her grandparents and cousins in an "oil camp" establishment in Frankell, Texas, (near Breckenridge) where her father worked for Phillips 66 Refining Co. They were devout Southern Baptists and she remembered attending many tent revivals near her home as well as church every Sunday, a habit she would carry throughout her life.
She lived in Frankell until the age of 11, at which time the family moved to McCloud in east Texas. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at the age of 13. Charlene participated in speech and choir and played catcher on the softball team at McCloud High School, graduating in 1950. Her desire was to attend college. Her uncle and aunt, Everett and Idella (Dell) Glenn, lived in Lawton so she moved in with them to attend Cameron College. The Glenn's were friends with Karl and Anna Hanza, and on a visit to the dairy farm, Charlene met her future husband, Rudy Hanza.
If ever two people were ever meant to be together, it was Rudy and Charlene. Their love for each other was evident and they were great example of mutual respect for one another. They were married on October 6, 1951, at St. John Lutheran Church in Lawton and shared 67 years together before Rudy's death on February 23, 2019. Their honeymoon was a trip to Kansas City, where Rudy received his American Farmer Degree! Charlene joined the Lutheran church shortly after her marriage and was a faithful member of St. John's until her death. She was a beloved Sunday School teacher for many years, and enjoyed the toddler room best. She was active in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, and served the church throughout her life in many capacities including altar guild, nursery, choir, and funeral dinner committee. She was a great example of faith-filled living and service and set the bar high for her children to live a life of integrity and moral character.
Charlene and Rudy shared life side by side, raising six children, milking cows, farming, ranching and owning businesses along the way. They inherited the dairy from Karl and Anna, and ran it commercially for 10 years. In 1963, they downsized the dairy and served individual customers instead, and branched out into the construction business, later owning the Ford tractor dealership, R&H Implement Company in Lawton.
Charlene was a perennial homeroom mother, making homemade cupcakes and cookies for every school party. Charlene carted all the kids to 4-H and FFA events. She loved to watch her kids and grandchildren and even great-children participate in their various sports and stock shows. There is no way to know how many meals she prepared and hauled to the fields during plowing, planting and harvest seasons, while keeping everyone fed at home. She made most of the girls' clothes by hand and mended a lot of holes in the boys' jeans on her sewing machine! She had the kids help tend a large garden every summer, preserving those vegetables by canning and freezing for winter meals. When she did have a little spare time, she was an avid reader.
Charlene was preceded in death by her husband, Rudy; her parents, Herman & Lucy Scoggins. Her father- and mother-in-law, Karl and Anna Hanza; her siblings, Robert Scoggins, Dorthy Scoggins, and Jo and David Bray; brother- & sister in-law, Karl, Jr. and Yvonne Hanza, and a granddaughter, Whitney Tate Hanza.
She is survived by her six children and their spouses: Charles and Patti Hanza, Karl and Sherry Hanza, Darrell and Cindy Hanza, Sharon and Grady Greene, Jana and Greg Hogan, and Teresa and David Heater.
She is also survived by her 15 grandchildren: Tad (Amy Bates) Hanza, Stephen Hanza, Sarah (Gil) Ambrose, Clint Hanza, Kathryn (David) Harris, Barry (Janet) Hanza, Alyssa (Derek) Cottrell, Bret (Shanna Smith) Hanza, Laura (Andrew) Peck. Briant (Courtney King) Hanza, Kyle (Jessica) Hanza, Philip (Kirsten) Greene, Robert Greene, Geoffrey Hogan and Collin Hogan; and twenty-nine great-grandchildren: Calvin, Jeslyn, Corbin, Karly, Kash, Kage, Brock, Cooper, Zoey, Hank, Huck, Hesston, CJ, Mila, Liam, Raelyn, Gracie, Landry, Sterling, Rozilynn, Geib, Logan, Dakota, Harper, Brooke, Riley, Caleb, Bradlee and Clayton.
She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Shirlene Scoggins, Leander, Texas, a special cousin, James (Sue) Veale, Granbury, Texas, and many beloved nieces and nephews in Oklahoma, Texas and Arizona.
