Obituary

Funeral service for Charlene Hamilton, 86, Lawton, will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2014, in the Becker-Rabon Funeral Home Chapel. Mrs. Hamilton died Saturday, July 12, 2014, in Lawton. Burial will be in the Letitia Cemetery. Charlene was born to N.B. and Florence (Craig) Van Hoozer on November 19, 1927 at the Bethel Community east of Lawton. She graduated from Central High School of Marlow in 1945 where she loved to play basketball. While still in high school she worked at S.H. Kress' Department store. After graduation she worked at the Comanche County Court House. She was a great typist and spent 19 years working at Reynolds Army Community Hospital at Fort Sill where she made a good living for herself and her two sons. She married Thomas Eugene Hamilton on September 1, 1949. She had been saved and baptized in the First Assembly of God when it was located at 9th and Columbia in Lawton. Prior to moving to the Village on Lee she loved to go to friends houses to play cards and dominos which she missed very much. She also liked to play Bingo at the Village on Lee. She had many friends and family members who will miss her very much; particularly her great friend Pauline Bruns of Marlow. She depended on her nephew, Keith Buttram, who was one of her caretakers, to see that she had everything she needed or wanted. She is survived by her two sons, James Earl Hamilton and his wife Jerri, Cabery, Illinois, and Johnny Gene Hamilton, Lawton; three grandchildren, B. Wayne, Tommy and Celeste Hamilton; two step grandchildren, Candice Winbush and Barbara Mohr; four step great grandchildren; brother, Teddy Gene Van Hoozer and wife Jean; sister, Madell Buttram and husband Loal; sister in law, Melba Van Hoozer. Her parents, a brother, Billy B. Van Hoozer, husband Gene Hamilton, and daughter in law, Traci Hamilton, preceded her in death.
