Obituary

Age 90, formerly of Oklahoma City - Graveside service will be 2:00 PM Thursday in the Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, with Marilyn Robertson, Deacon, St. Pauls Episcopal Cathedral, Oklahoma City, officiating. Mrs. Relph passed away Sunday, March 15, 2009 at her home in Osage, Arkansas where she loved living in "her mountains". Burial will be under the direction of the Becker Funeral Home, Lawton. She was born on April 1, 1918 in Carbondale, Illinois to Henry H. and Clolla (Hannah) Horner. During WWII, she worked in Washington, D.C. for the FBI. After the war, she lived in Florida and New Mexico. She married George Bowman in Phoenix, Arizona, a pilot in the War who left her widowed from an airplane accident. She then moved in with her in-laws in Concordia, Kansas and met Ross Relph. They were married June 19, 1947. She and Ross had 3 daughters in Concordia, moved in 1955 to Denver, finally settling in Oklahoma City in 1957. Her husband of 61 years passed away on July 2, 2008. Kaye had many interests and pursuits; her favorite time was the 40 years she spent volunteering for the Republican Party. She was a delegate to the Republican national conventions, both in Oklahoma and throughout the nation. She was invited to the White House by President Nixon, where he recognized her service to the party. She grew up just a few miles from Dixon, Illinois, where President Reagan grew up. When they met once at a convention and she told him so, he was very pleased. When they met again at a later convention, he remembered, saying "Well! Hello Carbondale!", and she was very pleased. Her work in the Republican Party is documented in Who's Who in the Southwest. She lived through many changes of the 20th century, from riding in a horse and buggy with her grandmother going into town, to watching the Mars probes. In an interview once, she said that of all she had experienced, her family had the greatest value to her. Survivors include three daughters, Gene Ellen Chappell and Mary Relph Montgomery of Oklahoma City and Rosalind Meyer of Osage, Arkansas; five grandchildren, Aaron, Gabriel, Lisa, Zachery and Sarah; six great grandchildren, Brandy, Sydney, Michele, Jacob, Ian and Klohe; and a great great granddaughter, Sophie Jane. Her granddaughter, Hannah, preceded her in death.
