Funeral service for Carroll Wayne Rogers will be 1:00 PM Tuesday, November 24, 2015 in Western Hills Church of Christ with Harley Davidson, minister officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery under the direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home. Carroll W. Rogers, 75, died unexpectedly Thursday afternoon, November 19, 2015, in Lawton, Oklahoma. He was born March 21, 1940 in Erick, Oklahoma to Foy Clay and Anita Mae Rogers, both of whom preceded him in death as did his only brother Darrell "Tody" Rogers. Carroll grew up on a ranch near Mangum, Oklahoma and graduated from Plainview High School in 1957 at the age of 17. He graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1961 with a B.S. in Education, and received a Masters Degree in Education from Southwestern Oklahoma State in 1968, and then a Doctorate in Education from the University of Oklahoma in 1970. His education career included positions as teacher, principal, superintendent, assistant dean and coach. Carroll was proud to have coached the Friendship High School girls basketball team to the 1963 State Championship. In the early 1970's Carroll began working in real estate and became the first commercial realtor in Lawton while working for Parks Jones Realty. He was ultimately able to establish his own commercial real estate company, Rogers Commercial Properties, which has developed and managed a number of shopping centers and retail properties in the central and south central United States. Carroll enjoyed participating in and supporting various community organizations and looked for opportunities to make Lawton a better place to live. Always a teacher at heart, he cherished the opportunity to be a mentor and advisor to the many who sought his advice. Carroll has served as an Elder at the Western Hills Church of Christ for 33 years and was one of the earliest members of that congregation. He will be deeply missed by the Western Hills family as a knowledgeable and skilled Bible teacher and as a tireless supporter of all the missions of the church. Above all else, Carroll will be remembered as a Godly man who lived his life with humility, generosity and grace. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Karen Keegan Rogers; son Chad Rogers and wife Tammy; son Lawrence Freund and wife Lisa; daughter Frances Hillsman and husband Mike; sister Janie Buck and husband John; grandchildren Kait Hillsman, Michael Hillsman, Mitchell Rogers, Carson Freund, Kristen Freund and Caroline Freund; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In lieu of flowers, friends may wish to make a donation to their favorite charity in his honor.
