Obituary

Carolyn Jane Pate, of Lawton, departed this life on her 93rd birthday on Friday, October 28, 2022, while in the presence of her family at her home.

She was born on a farm in 1929 in Grapevine, Arkansas to Armo and Beatrice Threet. One of five children, she became very resourceful and was a skilled seamstress. She thoroughly enjoyed fashion and liked to create outfits for her family members in her free time. She received her degree from the University of Arkansas Teachers College where she met her husband Eugene Pate, who preceded her in death. Collectively, they were known as "Night & Day" because they were always together.

Her career began in the Bixby and Tulsa Public Schools systems, and she later moved to Lawton in 1964 where she became a librarian. She advanced to Chief Librarian at the Fort Sill Nye Library where she contributed to the digitizing of files before retiring in 1995.

Possessing strong interest in the community, she wholly enjoyed the Philharmonic and plays at McMahon Auditorium; was active in the Book Club, Camera Club, and Friends of the Library; assisted in International Festival preparations; and ensured her grandchildren had access to various visual and musical arts.

She was full of vivacity, traveling abroad and taking Tai Chi well into her senior years. Always friendly and quick-witted, she never knew a stranger and wasn't afraid to give a recommendation.

She is survived by her brother Monroe Threet and his son Bruce Threet of Coos Bay, Oregon; her daughter and son Sharon Pate and Joseph Pate, both of Lawton, Oklahoma; her granddaughter Rachelle "Shelly" Pate and her husband Darron Miller of Cleveland, Ohio; and grandson Joshua Henderson and his significant other Ashley Jeffalone of Austin, Texas.

A ceremony of life to honor her character and celebrate her spirit will be hosted at Boulevard Congregational & Christian Church at 55th and W. Gore Boulevard on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at 11:00 a.m.. Casual attire is requested.
