Carolyn Kay Ellenbrook, age 72, died Sunday, January 24, 2016 in Lawton. She was born September 2, 1943 in Denton, Texas to Herman and Louise Baker. She was a graduate of Lawton High School and earned her bachelor's degree from Oklahoma State University. Carolyn then went to work for the State of Oklahoma as a child welfare caseworker. During that time she met Charles Ellenbrook and they were married on April 13, 1968 in Lawton at Trinity Baptist Church. Carolyn soon began a 27 year career as the Associational Clerk with the Comanche-Cotton Baptist Association. She retired for health reasons in 2012 after serving with three directors of missions.
Carolyn was active as a Campfire Leader and PTA member while her daughter was young. She joined Trinity Baptist Church in 1959 and served over 47 years in the children and pre-school ministries. She was very involved in her service to the Lord having served four years on the Baptist General Convention's board of directors and a five year ex-officio term, served five years as Oklahoma Baptists WMU president, served one year as president of the Lifeway sponsored associational religious education organization, served a three year term on the Oklahoma Baptist Historical Commission and is a LIFE member of the Oklahoma Baptist Society where she served as secretary. Carolyn was honored for her service by the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma with the Gaskin Church History Award for her work in helping write the Comanche-Cotton Association Centennial history book as well as receiving the Distinguished Service Award for her years of service to the BGCO.
Her understanding of people of different cultures was enhanced by travels to other countries while being raised in a military family. She had a desire to go to many areas to share with others about her Lord. Places such as mission trips to Hawaii, Arizona and Texas to lead conferences to establish communication and better equip teachers. The Dakotas, Mexico and Malawi were other areas where Carolyn shared her love of the Lord.
She is survived by her husband, Charles; a daughter and son in law, Margaret and Jerry Dixon; a granddaughter, Ashton Lascano; two step grandchildren, Karrisa Dixon and Mason Dixon.
Her parents and a brother, Bill Garrett, preceded her in death.
