It is with profound sadness and immeasurable love that we announce the passing of Carmen Flores, who entered eternal rest on September 11, 2026, surrounded by the love she spent her life so freely giving to others.

Carmen was born on December 18, 1965, in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, to Carlos Belen and Benita Melendez Garcia. She spent her youth growing up in Puerto Rico and carried her love for her Boricua roots proudly throughout her entire life. There was very little Carmen loved more than being Puerto Rican-except, of course, her family.

As a young woman, Carmen relocated to The Bronx, New York, where she attended Baruch College. Soon afterward, she answered another calling and enlisted in the United States Air Force, beginning a chapter of her life that took her to Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma, where her life as an adult truly began.

In 1987, Carmen welcomed her first child, Kareem, beginning a journey into motherhood that would become the greatest and most defining part of her life. Her life was further enriched when she met and married her husband, Irving "Danny" Flores, in 1996.

In 1997, Carmen and Danny moved to Lawton/Fort Sill, Oklahoma, where their family continued to grow. Their second child, Naysha, was born that year, followed by their third child, Alexa, in 2001. Together, Carmen and Danny built a loving family of five.

But Carmen's heart had always been bigger than what could fit within the walls of one home.

A dedicated mother and homemaker, Carmen devoted her life to creating happiness, comfort, and love for those around her. She had a remarkable ability to put a smile on someone's face and to bring joy into places where it had previously been missing. She didn't simply believe that every child deserved love-she lived it.

Carmen fostered numerous children, opening her home and her heart to children who needed the same love, security, and compassion she gave her own. And, as she so often did, Carmen didn't stop at simply helping others. She made them family.

At some point during her journey, Carmen and Danny adopted three young boys-Bryson, Zachariah, and Curien "CJ"-expanding their family to eight.

And still, Carmen's heart had room for more.

Continuing to extend the love that seemed limitless within her, Carmen and Danny adopted four sisters, Tatiana, Alessia, Makayla and Ariyana, bringing their family to twelve.

For Carmen, this was more than motherhood. This was her calling. This was who she was.

Carmen loved big and loud. She was a leader-tenacious, fierce, passionate, and strong. She was also funny, loving, loyal, forgiving, and compassionate. She could be strong when strength was needed, gentle when comfort was needed, and somehow always knew when someone simply needed to laugh.

Her faith guided her every day. Carmen loved the Lord deeply and sought to live her life in His name. She believed in the power of love, kindness, forgiveness, and faith, and she shared those gifts freely with everyone she encountered.

Carmen had a presence that could not be ignored. Her laugh could be heard from Oklahoma to Puerto Rico, and her energy was contagious. She walked into a room and brought light with her. She made people feel seen. She made people feel loved. And more than anything, she made people feel like family.

Her impact reached far beyond the children she raised and the home she built. She was a daughter, sister, aunt, friend, wife, mother, and grandmother.

She was Carmen. She was Lizzie. She was Titi. She was Ma. She was Mom. She was Mimi.

And to the countless people whose lives she touched, she was so much more.

She was everything. She was love in motion. She was perfection in the eyes of those who adored her. She was a gift. She was a blessing.

And although her physical presence is no longer with us, the love she poured into her family and everyone fortunate enough to know her will continue through every life she touched.

Carmen's greatest legacy will not be measured by the years she lived, but by the love she gave, the lives she changed, the children she welcomed, the family she built, and the joy she left behind.

Her laughter will live in us. Her strength will live in us. Her faith will live in us. Her love will live in us.

And every time we choose kindness, open our hearts, welcome someone in, or make someone smile when they need it most, a part of Carmen will be with us again.

Until we meet again, Ma, Mom, Mimi, Carmen, Lizzie, Titi- We love you.

We will carry you with us always. Rest peacefully in the loving arms of the Lord.

Carmen is survived by her husband Irving, children Kareem, Naysha, Curien, Zachariah, Bryson, Tatiana, Alessia, Makayla, and Ariyana, grandchildren Jalen, Camrynn, Kaci, Grayson, Kendall, and Carter, father Carlos, mother Tita, and sisters Linda and Sheiky.
