Funeral service for Carmen Maria Borrero Colon, 74, Lawton, will be at 10:00 am Friday in the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel. Mrs. Colon died Sunday at her home in Lawton. She was born August 23, 1937 in Brooklyn, New York to Solomon Borrero and Georgiana Cruzado (Lina). She married her childhood sweetheart, Henry Colon, who was born in Cidra, Puerto Rico on July 7, 1935, and passed away on January 6, 1966. On June 5, 1953 she gave birth to her firstborn son, Henry Colon III, on August 28, 1954, her only daughter Yvonne Carmen Colon-Santiago, son Ernest Colon on December 15, 1955, son Richard Henry Colon on May 19, 1957 and youngest son Moses Solomon Colon on July 8, 1959. Carmen worked hard all of her life, raising her children, always doing the best she could in New York. She was the mother on the block to all of our friends and she always got along with all of them, counseling them as they came to her with the challenges of teenage and young adult lives. As she got older, her illness began to get the better of her, but she remained struggling to the end. We thank God that she peacefully expired while watching television in her favorite chair. After moving here to Lawton, living with her daughter Yvonne, she let go of her saints and accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior. Although she could not make it to church after her surgeries, she still kept Jesus close in her heart. She moved into her own apartment in an elderly housing project here in Lawton early in 2011, which she loved very much. Now she is gone to the bosom of Abraham in Heaven. She is home. Thank You Mom, We Love You ! She is survived by her five children and their spouses, 17 grandchildren, in order of eldest child first, Lauren and Liza Colon (Henry), Joey, Eunice and Jonathan Santiago (Yvonne), Ernest Arsenio, Enrique, Clarissa and Christina (Ernest), Richard Dominick, Jeanine, Jose Fernandez (step) and Arielys Colon (Richard), and Sonya (Marcela), Violet, Jasmine and Lina Colon (Moses). She is also survived by 18 great grandchildren.
