Age 79, Lawton - Services will be at 12:30 pm Monday in the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Jerry Shepherd, Senior Pastor, Vineyard Christian Fellowship, Lawton, officiating. Sergeant Franklin died Tuesday at a local care facility. Burial with full military honors will be at the Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin with Chaplain (MAJ) David Harsdorf officiating. He was born April 25, 1928 in Wilder, Tennessee to Melvin Thomas and Arizona (Rains) Franklin. He enlisted in the US Army in 1946 and was stationed in Japan and Germany with the occupation forces. His Awards include the Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 device, the Good Conduct Medal with 8 awards and the Army of Occupation Medal for Japan and Germany. He was the Assistant Manager at the Fort Sill Officer's Club for many years. He married Trudy Mock on February 5, 1954 in Germany. They have resided in Lawton since 1959. Survivors include his wife Trudy of the home; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Birgit and Jerry Shepherd and Barbara "Bob" and Herb Ward all of Lawton; 2 grandchildren, Justin Thomas Ward and Rachel Jacobson and her husband Chad; a great granddaughter, Joey Jacobson; 2 brothers and their wives, Pat and Marie Franklin of Muncie, Indiana, Joe and Glynnell Franklin of El Paso, Texas; a sister, Agnes Lee of Jamestown, Tennessee; 3 sisters-in-law and their husbands, Christa and Jim Shope of Las Vegas, Nevada, Gisela and Ellsworth McConnaughey of Lawton and Edith and Robert Mitchell of Germany; a brother-in-law and his wife Anton and Doris Mock of Germany; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Earl Franklin and a sister, Marie Voiles.
