Brenda Sue Nevarez Toehay went to be with the Lord on September 10, 2025. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend. Those who knew Brenda would agree that the most important role in her life was "faithful servant". Today we know she has come face to face with the one whom she so faithfully served, Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior.
Brenda was born on June 27, 1956, in Spur, Texas to Bentura and Elizabeth Nevarez. She attended primary, elementary, Jr. High and High School in Spur along with her 13 siblings. She didn't enjoy hitting the books as much as she enjoyed playing basketball, running track, playing in the band, being a cheerleader and socializing with her many friends.
On August 7, 1974, she married Marion Toehay, Jr., and moved to Carnegie, Oklahoma. They were soon joined by their three children, Angie, Cindy and Charlie. It was during those days that she began to know the Lord and began her life-long service and dedication to following Him. Her children attended Victory Christian School, where she was a teacher's aide. After leaving her position there at VCS Brenda sought employment positions where she could serve and assist people in need. She worked with the migrant program in Carnegie Public Schools, the OPCA performing community outreach, Catholic Charities, and Lawton Housing Authority. In her last weeks of life her family received countless calls from people inquiring about Brenda and giving testament about how she touched their lives by going out of her way to assist in finding housing, food, clothing and many whom she ministered to about hope in the Lord that she so faithfully served. This is who Brenda was! She found joy and purpose in this life with her husband and children and serving the Lord. Brenda loved to read her Bible and often said her favorite time of the day was the early morning hours she spent with the Lord. She was always ready to share the word and pray with anyone. She was a member of Logos Christian Fellowship where she especially enjoyed her fellowship time with the women's ministry.
Brenda enjoyed time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. As a grandmother of children with special needs she was an advocate for support and inclusive opportunities for all individuals with special needs. Brenda also enjoyed attending the many family gatherings, cook-outs, holidays and birthday celebrations that came with being a member of a very large family. She was always ready to pray and ask the Lord to bless all those attending and to say a special prayer for anyone in need.
Brenda is survived by her husband, two daughters, Angela Toehay (Cory Jackson), Cynthia Toehay and her son, Charles David Toehay. She is also survived by her sisters Ester Ortega ( Zeferino), Carolyn Cordes (Tim), Vickie Leyja, Beatrice Nevarez, Rachel Reemts (Roy), Paula Hubbard (Chuck) and her brothers Bentura Nevarez, Jr. (Elena), Arnold Nevarez, Joel Berg-Nevarez and Edward Aleman. Brenda also had 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Belia Zamora, Linda Conover, and Yolanda Molina.
2 Corinthians 5:7-8 for we walk by faith, not by sight. Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.
