Bonnie Lee Lashley was called by her precious Lord to her heavenly home where she joined her husband Melvin and son, Thomas on September 29, 2015, at the age of 94 years and 8 months, surrounded by her loving family. Bonnie Lee was born to Thomas Jefferson Sanford and Minnie Ola Huggins Sanford on January 25, 1921. Bonnie was the youngest of thirteen children and the last surviving. She was born on the family farm in Bells (Grayson County), Texas where she attended grade school and Bells Senior High School. Bonnie Lee met the love of her life, Melvin Lee Lashley at the young age of sixteen years, they married on November 27, 1937 and celebrated sixty-seven and one half years of marriage. During World War II, the Texas 36th National Guard Division was mobilized and Bonnie followed Melvin to Camp Bowie in Brownwood, Texas. While in Brownwood, Bonnie worked for Civil Service and later in Denison, TX she worked to support the war effort preparing "C" rations. She and her young daughter traveled to Fort Blanding, Florida, North Carolina, Buzzard's Bay, Cape Cod, Massachusetts before Melvin shipped out to Africa and to the European Campaign. Bonnie and her daughter lived with her family while her husband was deployed during the war. Bonnie helped work the land with her family, raised food and survived the Great Depression. She proudly traveled to every duty station and twice to Europe to support her husband during his military career. They retired at Lawton/Ft. Sill in 1962. Bonnie, in addition to being an outstanding military wife, was a wonderful cook, seamstress and quilter. Everyone who knew her knew you had to look hard to find a speck of dust in her house. Her greatest joy was in celebrating Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners and having her home bursting at the seams with her family and friends. Bonnie was a devoted member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Charity Chapter #507 for 41 years and the Order of the Amaranth, Lawton Court #36 for 38 years. She held and served in many stations for both organizations. She was secretary for Job's Daughters, Bethel #7 in support of her daughter for several years. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church for many years until her health began to fail. Bonnie's legacy is her family which was her pride and joy.
