Dr. Bonnie L. Burton died Sunday, February 1, 2026, at her home with her husband and special pets by her side.
She was born February 15, 1955, in Augsburg, Germany to Lt. Col. Cecil Joe Burton and Mollie L. Burton.
Graduating OU Dentistry at age 25 and moving back to Lawton, for her lifetime career.
Throughout her 43-year career as a dentist in Lawton, Oklahoma, she established lasting relationships with her patients and their families, developing strong connections across multiple generations. She enjoyed working with children and frequently encouraged families to go back together. She was able to tell small children stories of sliding down the Ice cream mountain while working, letting them pick the kind of Ice cream and toppings to keep their attention while working on them. She and her wonderful crew of women always smiled and kept up with the patients' families, the office felt like a big family.
When Bonnie was not working, she would join her mom and Dad at many social events in both Lawton and Ft. Sill. She would help AFA , Cameron, Lawton Country Club and CCMH, raise money and give donations herself to improve the City of Lawton as a whole. She just Loved watching people having fun.
At an early age of five she moved to Lawton/Ft. Sill with her family, first living on Ft. Sill, then moving into town, with her dad and Mom, Aunt Annie, big sisters Louise and Brenda and the baby twins Tom and Mag. Where she made many friends at Garfield School and learned to ride a bike, exploring downtown with movie theaters and Carnivals. She learned to dance with Story & Barton and did her first standing backflip at age of eight. Bonnie loved both dance and gymnastics for the rest of her life, being a cheerleader in elementary, junior high and High Schools. She was a very smart young girl making just a handful of grades that were not A's and participating in as many activities as she could. In Junior High she decided to be a doctor and focused her classes to make that dream come true. After graduating from Eisenhower High School, she went to Cameron and she and her friends started the Alpha Chapter of the Chi Delta Chi Social Sorority, with Bonnie Burton presiding over the meetings. She continued to push forward finishing Cameron with top grades and then applying to OU School of Dentistry in 1975 at the age of 20, Bonnie often said when she went up for her interviews instructors would look at her and say what are we going to do with this pretty little girl if we accept her, they did and soon found out she was a force to deal with being smart and quick to learn. In 1980 she graduated, meeting her childhood dream of being a doctor.
Going back home to Lawton to practice she was able to collaborate with the best dentists in Lawton, learning all the real-world secrets of her new craft of being a dentist, never forgetting what these men had taught her and friendships she made. She was known to be the first Female Dentist in Lawton. She soon met and married her first husband Thomas Lawson, they had one child, Whitney, and shortly after while Whitney was young, he took his own life, leaving Bonnie to raise their child. Bonnie and Whitney took many trips together and with her friends from school, Bonnie worked with her and supported her love of the same sport of Cheerleading and traveling to competitions.
During all this time Bonnie built her practice into a thriving business, she loved working with young women and trained many to be successful in both life and work, telling them not to lean on anything find what they want to do and go for it, don't depend on someone else to make your life what you want! Losing her hearing in 2009, she practiced for a year while undergoing treatment to repair her hearing. She was unable to recover only about 15% over the rest of her life.
In 2012 her mother invited Britt from Centenary United Methodist to one of her parties that Bonnie always attended. After less than a year they were always together you could see the love in their eyes and how they supported each other, and married in 2019 on June 5 at 5pm, this was always known as Mollie Burtons favorite time. Mollie passed away earlier that year.
Bonnie and Britt spent their time traveling, both loved the flower beds and creating a beautiful backyard, out of which they would share pictures and plants with friends. Bonnie loved to spend time with her new family Chase, Alexandria, and time she could get with her new grandbaby Olivia.
Cancer struck Bonnie in 2019 and once again she fought back, she so loved life and being able to achieve goals. After going through breast cancer and surviving, she developed lung cancer in 2022 and the fight was on again but this time she could not beat it, but she said, she lived the life few get too, with travel, family, the arts, and so many friends and loved ones.
Survivors include her husband of the home Britt Hubbard; son, Chase Hubbard; daughter, Whitney Wong and husband Michael; two granddaughters, Alexandria Hubbard; Olivia Wong; one great grandson Ares Cook-Hubbard; all of Lawton, her special pets, Laura the tortoise; and Zek and Zeb her mini-Schnauzers of the home; one brother Thomas and wife Sherry of Scottsdale AZ, and his twin sister Margaret and her husband Ken Warner of Edmond Ok. and one sister Brenda Shehan of Lee's Summit MO.; and many nieces and nephews.
