Billy Don Mullins, 89, passed away on Monday, March 31, 2025, in Lawton surrounded by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other family members.
Billy was born on June 27, 1935, in Temple, Oklahoma to Theodore O. Mullins and Ada H. (Damron) Mullins. After graduating from Temple High School, he married Alice Gennell Dixon on June 27, 1956, and then moved to Lawton. The two were married for 68 years and were blessed with three children. His career included retiring from Sears after thirty years and then later working in the Ag Department at Cameron University. Big Bill, as most knew him, prided himself on supporting sporting events that his kids, grandkids or great grandkids participated or coached in; as well as coaching Kim's top notch fast pitch teams that could beat anyone anywhere under his "Wave 'em On Willy" coaching style. Big Bill was well known for the advice he would give to batters in the on-deck circle or preaching to get that rebound because that ball is yours after a basketball game. When he wasn't at a sporting event, he could be found fishing so he could put on a family fish fry and come up with new fishing stories, quail hunting and was well known for making his homemade ice cream then fussing when others would eat the bowls they hid from him when he thought it was all gone. Big Bill loved watching Thunder basketball and was excited for how well their season is going. Those that adored Big Bill knew he was proud of them no matter what, considered him to be their biggest fan, but also knew to not expect "bye" when getting off the phone.
He is survived by two sons, Keith Mullins and his wife Cindy, of Newcastle; Kelly Mullins of Lawton; one daughter, Kim Mullins, of Lawton; two sisters Connie Smith and Belva Vardell of Walters; six grandchildren: granddaughter Brooke Mullins of Elgin; grandson Chance Mullins and his wife Stacy of Lawton; granddaughter Kelsee Mullins of Lawton; grandsons Travis McBride, spouse Jeremy and Derrick McBride, spouse Kellie and granddaughter Lauren McBride; seven great grandchildren: Braisley Mullins and Boston Wilson; MyLee and LynnLee Mullins, Tyler and Braylee Lawson, and Mason McBride, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife Genny Mullins, parents: Tedo and Ada Mullins, and sister Glowie Bowers
