Billy Wayne Adamson, 75, of Lawton, Oklahoma, passed away Monday, August 18, 2025 surrounded by his family.
Born on October 30, 1949, in Goodwater, Alabama, Bill grew up with a love for the outdoors, often spending his days playing in Hatchet Creek alongside his cousins and friends.
Bill proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. While stationed at Fort Sill, he met the love of his life, Katherine, and the two were married on August 16, 1969. Their greatest joy came with the birth of their daughter, Karin Marie, on September 4, 1971.
After a period serving as a police officer in Washington, D.C., Bill and his family returned to Lawton, where he joined the Lawton Police Department in 1974. Over the course of his career, he served in nearly every capacity-patrol, undercover, detective-and eventually rose to the position of Chief of Police. He was named Acting Chief in 1994, retired briefly, and then was called back to serve once more as Chief in 1995. He officially retired in 2002 after dedicating nearly three deades to law enforcement.
Bill was a devoted member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, where his faith was central to his life. He later answered a deeper calling by becoming a deacon, continuing his lifelong commitment to service.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Katherine, his daughter, Karin Marie, and son-in-law, Rich, his sister (Ruth Ann) of Alabama, a niece (Jennifer) in Florida, and a nephew (Ean) in Alabama. He will be remembered as a man of integrity, faith, and deep devotion to his family and community.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur T. Adamson, his mother, Ruth Richardson Adamson, his brothers, Eldridge, Reginald, and Bobby Adamson.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to either the Blessed Sacrament Parish Improvement Fund - Lawton, OK or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Funeral Mass will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Rev. Rayanna Narisetti officiating.
