Obituary

A funeral celebration will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at 10:00 AM at First
Presbyterian Church, Lawton Oklahoma for Beverly W. Brock, 84. The Reverend Dr.
John Helgeson will be presiding.
Arrangements are under the direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.
Beverly passed away August 9th at three AM at Oklahoma Heart Hospital after an
extended illness.
Beverly, a native of Lawton, was born November 4th, 1932, to Walter T. Whitener and
Ella Jo Fraser. She was an only child. She attended Emerson Elementary School, and
Lawton Junior and Senior High School, from which she graduated in 1950.
She went to work for KSWO radio while attending Cameron University and achieving
her associate degree in business administration. She left KSWO to work for the
government in civil service, where she met her husband, James H. Brock, who was
serving his two year enlistment in the United States Army. During this time, she left the
civil service and went to work at KSWO television as an executive secretary. During this
time, Beverly and Jim got engaged.
They were married February 12th, 1954, shortly before Jim was discharged from the
Army. They moved to Odessa Texas where they raised three children over the next 14
years. While in Texas, she was very involved with the Texas League of Women Voters,
serving on the state board. She was also active in the local chapter of the Tri Hi Y, as
well as being a member of the Junior League, a philanthropic women's organization
helping children with learning disabilities.
The family returned to Lawton in 1969 so that Jim could finish his degree at Cameron
University. Beverly went to work for Aetna Insurance.
Once Jim began working full time as a teacher in the Lawton Public School system,
Beverly began pursuing other interests: she served as executive secretary for Lawton
Arts for All for several years; she was on the board of the Lawton Arts and Humanities
Council; she was very active in her chapter of PEO, over time, serving as every officer,
including president. This year, she became a "Golden Girl", a holder of a 50 year pen in
the organization.
Through this all, she remained very active and involved with the Presbyterian church,
eventually becoming an elder at First Presbyterian.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband of the home, of 64 years, James; three children, Rene
Fuller and husband Don, of Herndon Virginia, Steven of Lawton, and Phillip, of Los
Angeles; three grandchildren, Cory Fuller and wife Jennifer of Herndon Virginia, Reagan
McCarthy and husband Clark of Huntsville Alabama, and Sullivan Brock of Los Angeles
California; four great grandchildren, Brock and Evelyn Fuller of Herndon Virginia and
Hannah and Caroline McCarthy of Huntsville Alabama; niece Lyn Brock of Lawton, and
nephew Barry Brock of New Wales Pennsylvania; and cousins Sue Abrams of Edmond
and Lyn Abrams of Seattle Washington.
Memorial contributions can be sent to Oklahoma Heart Hospital 4200 W. Memorial Rd.,
Oklahoma City, OK 73120.
