Barbara Kathryn Elizabeth (Lawrence) Morgan, 78, of Lawton, Oklahoma, passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Barbara was born July 29, 1947, in Lawton to Frank Harold Lawrence Jr. and Betty Lou (Shaw) Lawrence. She attended St. Mary's School, graduating in 1965, and went on to earn her bachelor's degree in education from Cameron University after first attending Southwestern College. On August 5, 1966, she married Mike Morgan, and together they shared 59 wonderful years.
Barbara began her career teaching fifth and sixth grade at Geronimo Road Elementary School, where she served for 14 years while earning her master's degree in education. She then became an assistant principal at Edison, Geronimo Road, and Park Lane Elementary Schools, and later principal at Lincoln, Geronimo Road, and Western Hills Elementary. After retiring in 1999, she returned to teach for one year at St. Mary's School and spent 15 years supervising student teachers for Cameron University.
Deeply committed to service, Barbara volunteered with Mobile Meals, United Way, and Red Cord, and served on the Post Adjudication Review Board. She was an active member and past president of Chapter EB of P.E.O. and the Comanche County Retired Educators Association.
Her faith was central to her life. A devoted member of Centenary United Methodist Church, Barbara served in many roles including lay liturgist, teacher in LOGOS, and chair of the Staff-Parish Relations Committee. She also helped prepare funeral dinners, supported Family Promise, held leadership roles in the United Methodist Women, and served as a delegate to the Oklahoma Annual Conference. She was a member of both the Oklahoma Annual Conference and the Lawton District Committee on Ministry and was a Certified Lay Speaker.
Barbara will be remembered as a gifted educator, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and a treasured friend whose love, leadership, and faith touched many lives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Timothy; and her sister, Lisa.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Mike Morgan; her brother, Frank Lawrence of Harlingen, Texas; her children, Danny Morgan and wife Crystal, and Kelly Jones and husband Jerrod; and seven grandchildren: Will, Emma, Kate, and Bella Morgan, Alyssa Holtzman, and Alyssa and Jake Jones.
