Age 54, Lawton - Services will be 10:00 am Thursday at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Tom Willoughby, Associate Pastor, officiating. Mr. Spannagel died Monday in an Oklahoma City hospital. Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery under the direction of the Becker Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Wednesday at the funeral home. He was born June 1, 1954 in Frederick, Oklahoma to Ivas and May Helen (Nelson) Spannagel. He was raised on the family farm Southeast of Geronimo. He graduated from Geronimo High School as valedictorian of the class of 1972 and attended Cameron University. He married Jan Ledford on November 25, 1975 in Lawton. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he had taught the college Sunday school class. He also had taught the young married class at Central Baptist Church. He was a member of the Lawton Home Builder's Association and was involved in the construction trade for nearly 30 years. His business was responsible for work on a large number of homes and commercial businesses in the Lawton area. Survivors include his wife of the home; a daughter, Carie Spannagel of Coppell, Texas; a son, Chad Spannagel of Lawton; his mother; May Helen Mallow her husband Elwood of Geronimo; a sister and brother-in-law, Melody and Mike Scott of Lawton; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Herman and Maxine Ledford of Lawton; brothers-in-law, Keith Ledford, Kent Ledford and Keegan and his wife Bonnie Ledford all of Lawton; 6 nieces and nephews, Mark Scott, Matthew Scott, Morgan Ledford, Courtney Ledford, Taylor Ledford and Jacob Ledford; and many relatives and close friends. He was preceded in death by his father.
