Mary Mitchell
August 9, 1929 - February 23, 2008


Age 78, Fletcher - Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Fletcher Assembly of God Church, Fletcher, with Rev. Robert Whitley, Pastor and Bill Ratchford, Pastor, Borger, Texas officiating.
Mrs. Mitchell died Saturday at her home in Fletcher.
Burial will be in the Fort Sill National Cemetery under the direction of Becker Funeral Home of Fletcher (Formerly Robbins Funeral Home).
The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
She was born August 9, 1929 at Horton, Kansas. She moved at age of 7 to Borger, Texas. She attended schools in Borger and Phillips, Texas through her first two years of high school. At age 9 she and her family became Christians and members of the Church of God. Her parents started her in piano lessons a year later. She became skilled enough to play in church at age 13, and continued her study of music until she obtained a Master's Degree in Music Education in 1979 at Angelo State University, San Angelo, Texas. She completed high school and 1 year of college at the Church of God B.T.S. in Sevierville, Tennessee.
She married Delbert Mitchell on August 18, 1947 in Borger, Texas at the close of an extensive revival in which he preached at her church. After their marriage she became actively involved in helping him complete his education and in pastoring in Edinburg, Amarillo and Midland, Texas. In the 60's they both worked at the Church of God Home for Children, Sevierville, Tennessee for 7 years. Mary Ellen worked in the offices and the church in many areas, plus taught private piano lessons to some of the children. In 1969 they returned to Texas where Delbert eventually went to work for San Angelo State School. Mary Ellen completed her education and taught music classes, choirs and private students in Christian private schools and in public elementary schools. She also became very actively involved in the Foursquare Church and in Women's Aglow Fellowship where she served on the local and area boards and in Music. She retired from public school teaching in 1994. She and her husband moved to Fletcher in October 2005 to be close to their son and his family.
She is survived by her husband Delbert Mitchell. Son and Daughter-in-law: Colonel (retired) Stephen and Johnna Mitchell, Fletcher; daughter: Jackie Chavarria, Bastrop, Texas; one brother: Bob Ringo of Fritch, Texas; three sisters: Phyllis Kitchens of Pampa, Texas, Ruth James of Cleveland, Tennessee and Evelyn and her husband Ted Roberson of Lubbock, Texas; 5 Grandchildren and their spouses: M. Dean Mitchell, San Angelo, Texas; Josh and Nikki Mitchell, Duncanville, Texas; David and Jennifer Mitchell, Sheppard Air Force Base, Wichita Falls, Texas; Matt and June Moyer, Fort Worth, Texas; Matt and Jessica Bass, Minot, North Dakota; a step granddaughter and spouse, Christi and Justin Wallace, Fort Eustis, Virginia; 11 great grandchildren: Jessica Hope, Makenna Joy, Jaidyn Faith and Caleb Moyer, Fort Worth, Texas; Corrina and Audrey Mitchell, San Angelo, Texas; Hannah and Lily Mitchell, Duncanville, Texas; Elizabeth G. and Daniel Scott Bass, Minot, North Dakota; and Jacob Mitchell, Wichita Falls, Texas; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her parents preceded her in death.
