Age 90 - Private graveside service will be held Friday, February 12, 2010 at Post Cemetery, Fort Sill.
CSM Irby died Saturday, February 6, 2010.
Burial with full military honors will be under the direction of Becker Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday, February 11, 2010 at the funeral home.
He was born February 12, 1919 in Lowndesboro, Alabama. He married Mary Price in 1947 at Fort Benning, Georgia. She died February 3, 2009.
CSM Irby retired in 1972 as Fort Sill’s Post Command Sergeant Major with over 30 years military service. In 1965, he was selected to be a member of the inauguration day cordon for President Lyndon B. Johnson. He was also selected on the first increment for the Command Sergeants Major Program in 1968. He received the following awards and decorations; Legion of Merit w/Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal w /2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Good Conduct Medal (8 awards), American Defense Service Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation of Germany Medal, National Defense Service Medal w/Oak Leaf Cluster, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal.
He is survived by two daughters, Allita Marie Irby and her husband Timothy M. Edwards, Bowie, Maryland and LTC (Ret) USA, Deborah G. (Irby) Tharpe and her husband Tracy D., Smyrna, Tennessee, a son, Marcus Chris Irby, Lawton and other relatives in Alabama and Georgia as well as many cherished friends.
CSM Irby is preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years and a son, Al C. (Mike) Irby, II.
